Multi-Layer Co-Extrusion Blown Film Line | XIAOPAI

A multi-layer co-extrusion blown film line extrudes two or more resins simultaneously through a single die, producing a film with distinct layers in one pass. Each layer does a different job: one provides strength, one provides barrier, one provides sealability. The result is a thinner, stronger film at lower resin cost than a mono-layer equivalent.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Co-extrusion is how converters cut resin cost without losing performance. Putting an expensive barrier resin only in the layer that needs it, rather than through the whole film, is the single biggest material saving available in flexible packaging.

FAQ

Q1: How many layers do I actually need?

A1: Start from the properties you need, not from the maximum available. Many applications are served by three layers. Adding layers raises cost and complexity, so we recommend the minimum structure that meets your barrier and strength targets.

Q2: Do I need EVOH or PA for barrier?

A2: Only if your product needs oxygen or moisture barrier. EVOH gives excellent oxygen barrier but is moisture sensitive and usually needs to be buried between polyolefin layers. PA adds puncture resistance as well as some barrier.

Q3: What is the payback on a co-extrusion line?

A3: It depends on your resin spread. If you are currently running a mono-layer film with an expensive resin throughout, moving to a three-layer structure with barrier only where needed usually pays back on material savings alone.
